Camel drivers gather on the Giza Plateau outside Cairo, offering rides to tourists through the Saharan sands, with the Pyramids in the background. It’s touristy but worth the experience. I was in Egypt this past April managing a tour for Smithsonian Journeys and arranged the camel ride at the Pyramids as a special treat for my group on our last day.
