Here’s a photo from my 35 mm film archives. In February 1995 I traveled to India to visit a friend who was studying in the ancient holy city of Varanasi (also known as Benares). One day at dawn we took a boat out on the Ganges River to watch the sunrise. The city and the river were very peaceful at that time of day, a far cry from the constant bustle of daylight hours. Although the sunrise itself was less brilliant that morning than we had hoped, the pale orb rising rising over the trees on the far shore cast a lovely pastel light over the river and  the boats moored at the water’s edge.
